Add battery storage

Your home uses most power at night. A battery stores your daytime sun so you stop buying it back after dark. This is where a home saves big.

That is already a solid down payment on a two-bedroom home: your roof helping you buy a roof. And a battery pushes this far higher.

Estimates for a typical New Providence home under utility net billing. Solar-only assumes a home consumes most power in the evening, so daytime surplus is exported at the lower net-billing rate. Battery storage captures that surplus for night use, cutting the bill to little more than the fixed connection charge. Actual savings depend on roof, usage and system size. Utility rates have historically risen, so real long-term savings are typically higher.

Estimated savings by monthly bill

The table below covers the same range as the slider. Solar-only assumes roughly half your bill is removed. Solar plus battery captures your daytime surplus for night use, which is where the larger reductions come from.

Why a battery changes the maths

A Bahamian household uses most of its electricity after dark, which is exactly when panels stop producing.

Solar only

Your panels cover daytime consumption and export the surplus. That surplus is credited at the lower net-billing rate, so you effectively sell cheap during the day and buy back at full price at night. Typical reduction is around half your bill.

Solar plus battery

The same surplus is stored instead of exported, then used after sunset at no cost. What remains is little more than the fixed connection charge, and you also gain automatic backup when the grid fails.
